Margaret B.
Brisbane, Australia Β· Enhanced Comfort
"I had my doubts about leaving Australia at 72 and settling somewhere so different. But Baan Sabai genuinely felt like a home within the first few weeks. The meals are good, the garden is lovely, and the staff remember who you are β which matters more than you'd think."

Wiriya S.
Chiang Mai, Thailand Β· Daily Living
"My children were worried about me living alone after my husband passed. Moving to Baan Sabai was not easy for me to accept at first, but I am glad I did. There are people around, meals are ready, and I have time now to do the things I actually want to do. The garden in the morning is very peaceful."

Edinburgh, Scotland Β· Premium Villa
"I'd lived in Thailand on and off for twenty years, and when the time came to make a more permanent arrangement, Baan Sabai was the only place that felt honest about what it was. The villa suits me well β quiet, independent, but with support when I need it. James [the liaison] has been particularly helpful."

Family of resident β Cologne, Germany
"My mother has been at Baan Sabai for about eight months now. As someone living abroad, the thing I value most is knowing I can reach the team and get a real answer β not a generic update. They've been straightforward about everything, and Mum seems genuinely settled. It's taken a lot of weight off."

Auckland, New Zealand Β· Enhanced Comfort
"The food was the first pleasant surprise β I expected institutional cooking and got something much closer to a good home meal. The room has a balcony which I use most mornings. I'd say the size is honest compared to what they describe. Only small suggestion would be slightly longer visiting hours at weekends, but that's minor."

Somporn T.
Family of resident β Bangkok, Thailand
"We looked at several places in Chiang Mai before bringing our father here. Baan Sabai was the only one where the people who ran it answered questions directly and spent real time with us on the visit. That told us a lot before we'd even decided. Father has been there six months and seems well in himself."

How Some Residents Found Their Way Here
The Situation
An Australian woman in her mid-seventies, recently widowed, found that managing a property in Chiang Mai alone no longer felt practical. Her family was in Australia. She wanted to stay in Thailand β but in a more supported arrangement.
What Helped
She chose the Enhanced Comfort Residence and connected with James, our international liaison, during the settling-in period. The twice-weekly community outings gave her a way back into social activity without pressure.
After Six Months
She reported feeling more settled than she had in the two years prior. Her daughter in Brisbane noted a visible change in how she spoke about day-to-day life β less anxious, more engaged. She has since extended to an annual arrangement.
The Situation
A retired Thai couple from Bangkok were looking for a quieter, managed environment in Chiang Mai. The husband had reduced mobility and wanted grounds that were easy to navigate; the wife was concerned about having meals taken care of.
What Helped
They moved into a Premium Villa β the even-surface garden paths and covered terrace suited the husband's situation well. The kitchen team noted their preferences early on and adapted accordingly. Staff were accessible but unobtrusive.
After a Year
Both described the move as the right decision in retrospect. Their adult children visit regularly, using the guest accommodation. The couple has become part of the social fabric of the community β joining the garden group and occasional communal dinners.
The Situation
A 68-year-old Scotsman who had lived across Southeast Asia for decades wanted a more settled base as he got older. He valued independence highly and was wary of anything that felt managed or clinical in character.
What Helped
He started with a monthly arrangement in the Daily Living tier to trial the community. After three months he transitioned to the Premium Villa β the independence of the space suited him, without the isolation of managing a property alone.
Two Years On
He's been here longer than any other international resident and says the monthly start was what made it possible for him to commit. He now mentions Baan Sabai to every person he meets who's considering a settled arrangement in northern Thailand.
